July registers excess rainfall in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: With more than the month’s normal of 18 cm of rain, Hyderabad has registered surplus rains in July. Moderate to heavy rains in the last week of the month ensured that the city crossed the average by 16 per cent (as on Friday). The Met department meanwhile has predicted heavy rain at isolated places in all 10 districts of Telangana up to August 2.
The Southwest Monsoon has been active over the state from July 11 with Adilabad in Telangana received the highest rainfall since the start of monsoon, recorded 30 per cent well above normal. Karimnagar stands second with 26 per cent excess rainfall followed by Khammam (22 per cent).
After a day’s break, the rains were back on Friday in Hyderabad with Somajiguda, Panjagutta and Begumpet witnessing heavy drizzles. Heavy rains lashed the twin cities in the evening, during the rush hour.
The Begumpet observatory recorded 4 mm of rain from 8.30 am to 8.30 pm on Friday. But checks of the Telangana State Planning and Development department measured that the northern side of Hyderabad received below 3 mm.
