Admissions to Nims cardio course stayed

Irregular filling of seats, says doctor.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Friday granted interim stay for one week on admissions to super specialty DM cardiology in Nims of Hyderabad. Justice Suresh Kumar Kait was granting the interim order while dealing with petition by Dr Madan Kumar. Dr Kumar submitted that there are eight seats in this super specialty course and as per the Presidential Order, three are reserved for Andhra University; two for Osmania and two for S.V. University area while one seat is kept aside as an open category seat.

He told the court that the authorities identified three seats for the Osmania University and only one seat for the SV University area, which is illegal. While granting the stay, the judge asked the authorities to explain. The Hyderabad High Court on Friday told the authorities to go ahead with admission process of A and B Category seats of MBBS in Telangana state as per the fee fixed by the government for the two categories. A division bench comprising Justice V. Rama Subramanian and Justice Anis, while admitting a petition by the Medical Students Parents Association, told the authorities to inform all the students that the fee now being paid would be subjected to the final orders on the writ petition.

The petitioner association urged the court to declare the fixing of the fee structure by the TS government for A and B Category seats without subjecting it to an institution seeking verification from Fee Regulatory Committee, as irrational and arbitrary. It was brought to the notice of the court that while students under “A” category were required to pay Rs 60,000 each, “B” category students were to pay Rs 9 lakh each.

When the bench asked counsel for the TS government why it did not consult the Fee Regulatory Commission before fixing the fee structure on its own, counsel replied that the panel was yet to be constituted in Telangana. While admitting the plea, the bench issued notices to all the respondents.
