3 of a family die of electrocution in Mahbubnagar trying to save pet dog
Hyderabad: A 65-year-old farmer died in Mahbubnagar while trying to save his pet dog from getting electrocuted on Friday. His wife and son were electrocuted when they went to rescue him. The victims were identified as T, Venkataiah, 65, his wife Amruthamma, 60, and their son Kistaiah, 40.
Police said the family used to stay at Thogapur village in Kosgi mandal of Mahbubnagar district, about 120 km from Hyderabad.
Since there was a regular threat to the crop from wild boars, they had laid a fence around their field that would be electrified every night from 9 pm to 5 am. Kistaiah would usually look after the field and the electric supply to the fence.
Apparently the power line used for agricultural pumpsets, which supplies 440 volts, had been connected to the fence. On Friday morning, though Kistaiah’s wife Ms Yadamma reminded him, he forgot to disconnect the power supply and went to supply milk in the village.
During this time, their pet dog ventured into the field, touched the fence and was electrocuted. Venkataiah rushed to its rescue without knowing that the fence was still electrified and was electrocuted.
Kistaiah returned home after completing his work and left for the field, but forgot that he had not disconnected the power supply. When he noticed his father, he rushed to help him, but he too collapsed.
