Shared scooter firm logs into Kochi

Petrol driven vehicles to be phased out from fleet to go electric.

KOCHI: Vogo, the Bengaluru-based share scooter riding company, will foray into Kochi in the next two to three months. Speaking to media in Kochi on Saturday, Padmanabhan Balakrishnan, co-founder and Chief Operating Officer of Vogo said the company is waiting for regulatory clearance from the local motor vehicle department.

“We are also having discussions with Kochi Metro Ltd to provide point-to-point connectivity,” Mr Balakrishnan said, adding that he expects to regulatory clearance in two to three months.

He said the company will expand to places like Thiruvananthapuram after launching in Kochi.

Vogo, launched in Bengaluru in 2016, is currently operating in six cities with 10,000 vehicles.

Chennai, Hyderabad, Mysore and Hubli are the other cities they operate in.

According to Mr. Balakrishnan the scooter share system in the country is having business potential of $6-10 billion. On an average 350 million trips are made by Indians using all modes of transport and two-wheelers account for 40 per cent of these trips. The company also plans to phase out its petrol driven vehicles from its fleet to make it a completely electric vehicle services.
