Govt to decentralise BBMP, says Dr G Parameshwar

The Deputy Chief Minister felt the power should be decentralized at all the eight zones.

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister Dr G. Parameshwar has said the state government is thinking about decentralising BBMP as it is becoming difficult to manage all the eight zones by a single administration.

After attending the ‘Janaspandana’ programme at Mahadevpura on Saturday, he said steps will be taken to decentralize the powers to all the eight zones.

We have the report submitted by B.S. Patil on splitting BBMP. With the city growing at a fast pace, the burden on the BBMP administration has also increased, he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister felt the power should be decentralized at all the eight zones. All the decisions can be taken by the Joint Commissioners and need not wait for the orders from BBMP Commissioner, he added.

Mr Parameshwar sat along with the officials of Mahadevpura and listened to people’s complaints and directed the authorities concerned to take suitable action.

He was upset over slackness shown by officials. “Carry out your duties with responsibility. If the area floods, I will catch hold of officials concerned and take stern action,” Mr Parameshwar said. He pointed out that there were a lot of complaints relating to stormwater drain encroachment and soon they will resume operation to clear them. He assured the people that all the complaints have been taken note of and will be resolved.

He added that he will review the works after four months.
