KANNUR: The CPM district committee which met here on Saturday kept a silence on the Anthoor controversy apart from making a namesake reference, fearing that the rift already haunting the party will worsen. With P. Jayarajan on one side, demanding action against the Anthoor municipality chairperson P.K. Shyamala, and CPM district secretary M.V. Jayarajan with the official faction, headed by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan,  any discussion would result in deepening the chasm in the party over the stand to be taken over the suicide of NRK businessman Sajan Parayil.

Though Shyamala participated in the district committee meeting, her husband  M. V. Govindan, CPM central committee member,  did not attend.

Apart from P. Jayarajan,  James Mathew, MLA, also took a strong stand that it was the failure of Shyamala that led to the suicide of Sajan,  while  M.V. Jayarajan and his camp stood firm with the stand of the state committee decision exonerating  Shyamala.

The state committee had given a strong direction that the issue can discussed in detail later in a special district committee. The agenda of the committee of the day was confined to the failure of the party in the Lok Sabha election and its reasons.
