UAE Foreign Minister to get a taste of IT City's cutting edge
Bengaluru: In a far cry from the 'ABC' - Ayah-Butler-Cook' - nomenclature that has dogged Indian workers in the Gulf states, UAE foreign minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan will get an insight into a hitherto top- secret cutting edge research underway at the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering in Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and advanced technology, involved in tracking satellites at ISRO’s Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) when India's top scientists make a presentation during the UAE prince's visit on Saturday.
The Centre for Nano Science and Engineering has turned into a must-visit facility for local VVIPs Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Ramnath Kovind and vice president Venkaiah Naidu but Sheikh Abdullah will be one of the first foreign dignitaries to be given an insight into India's scientific advancement especially the nano products developed for a variety of applications in fields as varied as aerospace and medicine. It has also spawned a couple of start-ups including one by Chairperson Prof Navakanta Bhat.
ISTRAC tracks satellites launched by ISRO and space agencies of other nations. On September 24, 2014, Mr Modi witnessed a historic moment from ISTRAC as Mangalyaan, the probe to Mars, entered its orbit around the Red Planet after a ten-month journey through outer space.
