Sleepless nights back for citizens at Masjid Banda

Officials ignore KTR directive on Masjid Banda.

Hyderabad: Construction activity has resumed at Masjid Banda, less than a month after Mr K.T. Rama Rao, minister for information technology, directed officials to take action against violators. Work on several high-rise structures in Cyberabad area was disturbing the sleep cycle of residents due to the noise at odd hours. Despite repeated complaints to the police, the construction activity continued unabated.

On June 3 this year, when residents of Gachibowli complained to Mr Rama Rao about the nuisance caused by the noisy construction activity, he directed the Cyberabad police commissioner, the GHMC commissioner and the chief city planner on Twitter “to immediately regulate and ensure compliance by all builders with respect to following stipulated time windows.”

Mr Praneet Kandarpa, a resident of the Masjid Banda area, said, “We've been repeatedly complaining about the issue and it is getting bad now. Cops talk to the builders and leave, nothing seems to stop them. Don’t they want us to sleep at all,” he asked. The measures taken by the officials are often temporary and residents said complaints to the police had failed to yield any results.
