Pinarayi Vijayan pulls up officials

Employees asked to be people-friendly, service delivery to be swift.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Thursday said the employees who protect the rights of the people in compliance with the rules and regulations would get government’s full support. Inaugurating the state conference of Kerala Secretariat Association here the Chief Minister said the employees who failed to adopt a peoplefriendly attitude do not deserve to be part of civil service. He said the government service was not a license to earn more income than one deserves and added that employees need to lead a life based on the income that they earn.

The Chief Minister said shuttling files from one section to other was not an isolated tendency. He lamented the sluggish pace of administration. Mr. Pinarayi said the service delivery mechanism in secretariat and other departments had to become swift on the expected lines. He said though there was some change during the last year, there has to be further improvement.

The Chief Minister said at a time when the government was moving forward with an approach to ensure justice to all sections of society, certain controversy mongers are nursing illusions about putting the government off track. Such people think that they are in control of everything. But they should realise that it is not going to work. Though most governments claimed that they were working for the state, its people and society, but many ruling dispensations have not been able to function accordingly. “So many controversies are taking place in the state. There has been no dearth of controversies,” he said and added that some controversies had adversely affected the state’s development projects: For, instance, the widening of NH to 45 meters.

He said the government was not ready to give in to such controversies. “Whatever the LDF has announced in its election manifesto is aimed at the welfare of people. Our experience tells that the policies adopted by the government during past one year have been largely accepted by people which also makes us more responsible,’’he said. He said the government was moving in the right direction. The collective responsibility of Cabinet has been strengthened.

The chief minister said the government was not meant for only those who voted for it. It does not share the view that those who did not support the Left would not get justice unde the LDF rule, adding that the LDF manifesto covered all sections of society irrespective of political divide.
