Rameswaram: A new office of the A P J Abdul Kalam International Foundation (AKIF) was inaugurated near the late President's ancestral home here on Wednesday.

The AIKF, which was set up in 2015 to motivate the youth to take up programmes like awareness on ecological issues and ‘Greening Rameswaram’ by planting more trees and on other subjects to take forward Dr Kalam’s vision for the Indian youth, will now have a home of its own at the birth place of the ‘People’s President’.

Dr Abdul Kalam’s elder brother Mohammed Muthu Meeran Maricar Labbai presided over a simple function here, which was attended by a host of dignitaries including former CBI director, D R Karthikeyan, Ramanathapuram district collector Veeraraghava Rao, and relatives of the late President among others.
