Chennai: Boy beaten to death over cricket brawl
Chennai: A 16-year-old boy was beaten to death, allegedly by four students, while playing cricket at Chippedu in Kancheepuram district on Tuesday evening. The boy's body was recovered from barren land in Erikarai area on Wednesday morning.
According to police, the victim, M. Naveen Kumar, son of Munuswamy of Chippedu was a Class 10 student at a government school in the same locality. "On Tuesday evening, he and his friends had gone to play cricket near his house. Sources said Naveenhad not returned home for several hours. Sensing danger, Munuswamy lodged a complaint at the Sivakanchi Police.
Police registered a missing case and launched a search for the missing boy. Inquires revealed that Naveen Kumar's friends were also found missing. Meanwhile, on Wednesday morning at around 9 am, Naveen's body was found in a pool of blood in Erikarai near Ellakulam.
The Sivakanchi police rushed to the spot and sent the body to the Kancheepuram government hospital for post-mortem. Police said the sustained severe injuries on his head and post-mortem reports revealed the deceased was beaten to death with a wooden log. The police registered a case of unnatural death and launched a search for his friends who are absconding.
