Andhra Pradesh fake firm cheats woman of Rs 89 lakh

Firm lied about being subsidiary of foreign company.

Hyderabad: A city-based company that supplies raw material to prepare feed for poultry and aquatic animals was duped of Rs 89.63 lakh by a company set up in Andhra Pradesh which reportedly claimed in a false advertisement to be a subsidiary of a Netherlands-based MNC.

During February last year, SONAC Pvt Ltd, Nellore published an advertisement claiming to be a subsidiary of SONAC, The Netherlands, and stated their requirement of Soya-de-oiled, a major ingredient used in the manufacture of prawn feed. The victim, C. Saritha (name changed), a partner in the city-based company, told the police that she went on to contact Suresh Reddy on the number which was mentioned in the advertisement and after some conversations, Suresh asked her to supply ingredients worth `89,63,795.

As per the request, Saritha supplied the ingredients to Nellore from mid-March to mid-April 2018, against the assurance of receiving the payment within 60 days. A few days after the final delivery, however, Suresh stopped responding to her calls and postponed the payment under the pretext of being abroad. Only later did Saritha learn that the firm in Nellore was not linked to the Netherlands-based MNC and that she had been duped.

Following the complaint by Saritha, the Rachakonda police registered a case under the relevant sections of the IPC and the IT Act for the probe and formed a team to nab the absconding accused.
