It stated that he has to appear before the investigation team if his presence is needed during the questioning of the priests involved in the case.

Kochi: The Ernakulam principal sessions court on Wednesday granted conditional bail to Adithya S. Valavi, the third accused in the bank documents forgery to defame Cardinal George Alencherry.

The order issued by judge Kauser Edappagath directed him not to contact Fr Paul Thelekkat and Fr Antony Kallookaran, the first and fourth accused in the case while out on bail.

It stated that he has to appear before the investigation team if his presence is needed during the questioning of the priests involved in the case.

The court also directed the accused not to enter the limits of Ernakulam North Police station and Koratty police station respectively, where Fr Thelekkat and Fr Kallookaran resides.

It is learnt that soon after Adithya was released from Kakkanad sub-jail, he was admitted to Angamaly Little Flower hospital.

In the case, according to police, he had sent the said documents via email to Fr Thelekkat, which he handed over to Bishop Jacob Manathodath, the second accused, who was also holding an internal investigation into the controversial land deals of the Ernakulam-Angamaly archdiocese.

HC moots mediation

The Kerala High Court on Wednesday sought to know if there was any possibility for rapprochement in the case of forging of bank documents to defame Cardinal George Alancherry.

A single bench made an oral query whether there was any possibility to settle issues under the mediation of any former Supreme Court judge while considering the petition of Fr Paul Thelakkat and apostolic administrator of Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese Bishop Jacob Manathodathu to quash the case against them.

However, the counsel for complainant Fr Jobi Maprakkavil said that there are other connected cases too and the opinion of Fr Maprakkavil should also be sought.

Since the anticipatory bail petition submitted by Fr Thelakkat and Bishop Manathodathu before the Ernakulam Principal Sessions Court is set to be considered on June 7, the petitioners requested to consider their petition after that. Following this, the court posted the case to June 10.
