Loan waiver: CM HD Kumaraswamy, farmers meet today
Bengaluru: A day after the Karnataka bandh called by the BJP on the issue of farm loan waiver, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has convened a meeting with farmers organisations and progressive farmers at Vidhana Soudha on Wednesday to discuss the problems of farmers including the waiver of crop loans and farmer suicides.
Deputy Chief Minister Dr G. Parameshwar will attend the meeting to which Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly B.S. Yeddyurappa has been invited. Progressive farmers from each district are also expected to attend.
On Tuesday, the CM held a preliminary meeting regarding crop loan waiver in which Chief Secretary K. Ratnaprabha, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) I.S.N. Prasad, Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner D.V. Prasad and Additional Chief Secretary to CM M Lakshminarayana participated.
Mr Kumaraswamy also took a stock of the situation in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts due to heavy rains and directed the deputy commissioners of both districts to take the assistance of the Coast Guard to evacuate people in case of an emergency. The CM instructed the DCs to take precautionary steps to mitigate severe damages and prevent loss of lives.
He discussed with senior officers of the Health Department the Yashaswini Scheme and the recently implemented ‘Arogya Karnataka’ scheme.
He asked Mr Ajay Seth, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) to closely monitor both schemes to ensure it reaches the needy.
