Kerala girl tops CBSE Class X
Thiruvananthapuram: G. Sreelekshmi of Bhavan’s Varuna Vidyalaya, Thrikkakara, Kochi, is among the four students who emerged joint first rank-holders scoring 499 out of 500 marks in the CBSE Class X examinations, the results of which were announced on Tuesday. The other toppers are Prakhar Mittal from DPS Gurgaon, Rimzhim Agarwal from R.P. Public School, Bijnor (UP), and Nandini Garg from Shamli (UP). Thiruvananthapuram region comprising the entire state emerged top with 99.60 per cent pass. Thiruvananthapuram is followed by Chennai with 97.37 per cent and Ajmer with 91.86 per cent.
Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai are the top two performing regions in the CBSE Class X examinations like last year.
Thiruvananthapuram region had the highest pass percentage at 99.85 last year also. It also topped the Class 12 examinations with 97.32 per cent. The overall pass percentage is 86.70. Girls with a pass percentage of 88.67 did better than boys with 85.32 per cent. Of the total 72,489 candidates who registered, 72,434 appeared for the examinations and 72,146 qualified. The other top rank-holders in the state are Theresa Soni (498) of Christ Jayanthi Public School, Kakkanad, Kochi, Ammu Mariam Anil (497) of Rajagiri Public School, Kalamassery, Kochi, Ashley Jacob (496) of Paramekkavu Vidya Mandir, Thrissur, Nandana Vasudevan (496) of Crescent Public School, Chalakudy, Thrissur, Ritu Rajesh (496) of S N Vidya Bhavan, Thrissur, Able Antonia George (496) of Assisi Vidyaniketan, Kochi, Parvathi Badrinath (495) of Silver Hill Public School, Marikunnu, Kozhikode, Krishna S. Menon (495) of Crescent Public School, Chalakudy, and Irene Biju of Nirmala Matha Central School, Thrissur.
More than 16 lakh students had registered for the examinations. Of these, 1,31,493 have scored over 90 per cent. The number of students who scored over 95 per cent is 27,476. The CBSE had introduced a scheme of studies this year in which if a student opts for vocational NSQF subject and in the event of failure in maths, science and social sciences, the subject gets replaced and the student passes that examination. From the state, 2003 students had taken vocational NSQF subjects and 2002 passed. The pass percentage of NSQF subject students is 99.95.
The pass percentage of students with vocational NSQF subject has increased significantly, said Mr Tarun Kumar, CBSE Thiruvananthapuram regional officer.
Thiruvananthapuram region had adopted due procedure and imposed penalty on three students who were found cheating in the examinations. They can re-appear in the respective subjects in the compartment examination scheduled for July, said Mr Kumar.
One candidate from Kottayam had carried a solved question paper of 2016 into the examination hall. Her current examination has been cancelled. However, she can appear for the entire subjects in the subsequent examinations. The student had alleged that the board had delivered the 2016 question paper wrongly. The allegations were found baseless after investigation, said Mr Kumar.
