Miyapur land scam: Prasad and others may have Rs 40,000-crore illegal land
Hyderabad: Investigation authorities believe that illegal land registrations worth Rs 10,000 crore were made in Miyapur, in favour of land mafia using fabricated documents and suppressed valuation.
As per estimations of the revenue department, however, the value of the illegally mutated lands to Prasad and others across the city could be worth Rs 40,000 crore.
So far Cyberabad police have identified the fraud in four survey numbers at Miyapur, where fraudsters with the help of sub-registrar, got 691 acres registered in their favour through four documents. Apart from this, the police detected fraud in two more survey numbers relating to 119 acres.
As per the estimations of the Stamps and Registrations department, the government should have got Rs 600 crore revenue towards stamp duty for the six registrations.
The scam came to light when Medchal district registrar N. Saidi Reddy lodged a complaint with police four days back.
Following the compliant, the Medchal district revenue authorities have begun a search for similar frauds involving prime accused P.S. Prasad.
During its preliminary investigation, the revenue department found that Prasad and another accomplice got patta lands in Survey Numbers 1 and 57 of Hasmathpet village near Secunderabad registered in their name.
Mohammad Moizuddin Khan, a successor to the land belonging to Khursh-id Jah Paigah, said that his family had been fighting against Prasad, who created fabricated documents without any proper link documents. The Paigahs were one of the prime aristocrat families in Hyderabad during the Nizam era and they had huge tracts of land in and around the city.
“We are having lands at Hasmathpet. However, Prasad has been claiming the land with his benamis since decades. Though we have submitted all documents to courts, he was successful in delaying the case with the help of various officials,” he said.
“In 2014, the Supreme Court declared some land as patta lands, favouring the successors of Paigas and ruling against Prasad and his accomplice.
Based on the order by the SC, the Medchal district collector set aside mutations done earlier in favour of Prasad and his brother Partha Sarathi,” an official from Medchal revenue department said.
Prasad faces cases in US too
Prime accused P.S. Prasad is facing a few cheating cases in the United States, according to a copy of the petition filed in a US court.
In 1988, Mr Prasad and two others had applied for a loan of $1.9 million from Bank of India in the United States for starting a hotel.
Similarly, he took $1.4 million loan from State Bank of India in the US and tried to take $2.5 million loan from Branch Banking & Trust.
After sometime, he defa-ulted on loan repayments and came back to India. Following this, bank authorities filed a petition with the Court for South-ern District of New York for recovery of the loan.
After waiting for nearly one year between October 15, 2001 to July 26, 2002 for his to attend the US court, the banks filed a heabeas corpus petition in India and it is still pending in India.
The Cyberabad police suspect that Prasad may be taking shelter in Delhi or Bengaluru. CID is observing developments in the case as it expects that the case would be transferred to it soon.
Meanwhile, deputy CM and revenue minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali on Monday told officials that registrations through ‘Anywhere System’ should be done only after securing clearance from the concerned sub-registrar or district registrar.
Officials cancelled the four registrations made for 590 acres of government lands by the sub-registrar as per the directions of the deputy CM.
