Hyderabad: Three organs of 65-year-old V.N. Prasad, who was declared brain dead, were donated to the Jeevandan scheme by his family.

Prasad, who had retired from service from a private firm, suffered from severe headache on May 25 and was rushed to the Shalini Hospital in Hyderabad, according to a press release from the Jeevandan trust.

After three days of treatment Prasad was declared brain dead on May 28 by doctors due to internal bleeding, the Jeevandan trust said.

The family members were aware of the government-run Jeevandan organ donation and his wife, Ms V.N. Ramadevi, readily agreed to donate his organs.

Jeevandan has received hundreds of organs from donors over the last couple years, which have been transplanted into patients whose own organs had failed.
