AIADMK (Amma) discusses steps to retrieve two leaves'

The Chief Minister also asked the functionaries to prepare for elaborately celebrating the birth centenary of party founder MGR.

Chennai: Indicating that the ruling AIADMK (Amma) faction is seriously expediting measures to retrieve the 'Two Leaves' symbol, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palanisami on Monday instructed the district secretaries to complete the work of submitting the affidavits of party functionaries before June 5.

As the hearing of the Election Commission on the party symbol comes up for hearing on June 16, the ruling faction held a meeting of district secretaries and office-bearers of the headquarters. Besides the Chief Minister, all the ministers took part in the meeting.

The Chief Minister also asked the functionaries to prepare for elaborately celebrating the birth centenary of party founder MGR. He recalled that he had invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the valedictory function of MGR's centenary celebrations in December. He also said Modi would come for unveiling the portrait of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa in the Assembly. The AIADMK government has been functioning well in its first 100 days, he said expressed optimism that the party could continue in government for another four years. Emphasising the unity of party members, he said the party and government could be saved through their cooperation.

Party presidium chairman K.A. Sengottaiyan and treasurer 'Dindigul' C. Seenivasan also spoke at the meeting. Finance minister D. Jayakumar said the party functionaries discussed about celebrating the birth centenary of MGR and measures to retrieve the 'Two Leaves' symbol at the meeting. He said his party had filed 98 per cent of the affidavits and the remaining work would be completed soon, he added.
