No sick leave for Karnataka cops on strike day

No doctor should issue certificates without proper medical check-up or recommend leaves on health grounds for police personnel.

BENGALURU: While the policemen are planning to go on mass leave on June 4, the state machinery is making all efforts to ensure that the police staff’s plans fail.
The Director of the Health and Family Welfare services has directed all hospitals not to recommend leaves for any police personnel without proper diagnosis.

The director, in a directive, stated that as the state policemen are planning a strike on June 4, there are chances that they would approach government hospitals to get medical certificates for leave. No doctor should issue certificates without proper medical check-up or recommend leaves on health grounds for police personnel.

Following the directive from the head office, all district officers of the health department are forwarding the directive to medical officers of all primary health centres and chief medical officers of all general hospitals.

The policemen, on the other hand, are determined to go on leave on June 4. “It’s a known fact that we are going on mass leave. Even if we have health problems genuinely, we won’t get proper leaves. Now, even if we produce medical certificates, our higher-ups won’t accept it. So, we will go on leave, no matter what,” a police constable said.
