30 engineering colleges likely to lose affiliation from JNTU-Hyderabad

With 30 joining the list, the number of colleges that students can opt for undergraduate engineering studies this year will be around 200.

Hyderabad: JNTU-Hyderabad has shortlisted nearly 30 private engineering colleges that are likely to lose their affiliation for the coming academic year.
Apart from this a majority of the colleges stand to lose one course or the other for reasons such as shortage of faculty, laboratories, failure to submit Form-16 etc.

About 58 colleges did not apply for affiliation this year, including 21 which sought permission for permanent closure citing various grounds. With 30 joining the list, the number of colleges that students can opt for undergraduate engineering studies this year will be around 200.

Not everything is lost for the colleges that are under the scanner of JNTU authorities for failing to fulfill the required criterion or guidelines. They were served deficiency reports and told to give their explanations. This process is being done online for the first time, attracting criticism from private engineering colleges.

“Not all are well-versed to explain their point of view or problems at the ground level over the Internet. We are usually given a chance for personal hearing before the panel every year. We can express our opinions; clarify their doubts or concerns in face-to-face meetings,” complained the managing director of an engineering college located on the city’s outskirts.

“Our voice cannot be heard properly in online communication. A course has been removed from an engineering college for having 29 teachers, while the rules state 30 teachers should be on the rolls,” he said.

“A fair chance should be given to Engineering colleges by JNTU authorities. Else, colleges and prospective engineering students will be the losers,” he said.
