Vijayawada: VVPAT counting to delay results

He said that randomisation of VVPATs will be held in the presence of candidates and agents on the votes counting day on May 23.

Vijayawada: AP chief electoral officer G.K. Dwivedi said that announcement of election results would be delayed due to the counting of VVPAT slips. He said that the VVPAT slips would be counted after the counting of votes of EVM which would delay the election results announcements. He said that five VVPATs in each Parliament and Assembly constituency would be taken for counting.

He said that randomisation of VVPATs will be held in the presence of candidates and agents on the votes counting day on May 23.

Mr Dwivedi said that as many as 1,750 VVPATs should be counted and nearly 1,000 votes would be polled in each VVPAT. He said that one to one and half hour of time will take for the counting of VVPAT slips and returning officer and polling observers will conduct the VVPAT slips counting. He said that election result will be announced after matching of polled votes in EVMs and slips in related VVPATs.

Mr Dwivedi said that first Assembly election results will be announced and later Parliament election results would be announced.
