Bengaluru: A 23-year-old rowdy was shot in the left thigh after he attacked a police team from Upparpet police station who went to arrest him early Monday morning.

The team, headed by Sub-Inspector Rajendra, was trying to arrest Mansoor Khan – a resident of Assam, when he attacked them. He is an accused in seven different cases, including kidnapping, murder, attempt to murder and robberies. The incident occurred just past midnight.

“We formed a team under Upparpet Inspector Ramappa and PSI Rajendra to arrest Mansoor. When we went to the spot, he resisted arrest and tried to attack police constable Jayachandra with a sharp object. PSI Rajendra was forced to shoot Mansoor in the leg for self-protection. The accused was then arrested and admitted to hospital for treatment,” a police official said.

Recently, Mansoor had kidnapped Rajesh Sharma and Gopalkrishna and demanded Rs 5 lakh to release them. But Gopalkrishna managed to escape and filed a complaint with the Upparpet police. Acting on the complaint, the police rescued Rajesh Sharma on April 25. The operation to arrest the accused was carried out early on Monday morning, the police said.
