Hyderabad: The National Investigation Agency has arrested a West Bengal native in connection with a Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) racket busted at Vishakhapatnam in 2018, and recovered four fake Rs 2,000 notes having a face value of Rs 8,000.
The NIA said that Saddam alias Firoj Shaik, 22, was arrested in his native village of Kumbhira in Malda district of West Bengal on Sunday. He was brought to Vijayawada on a transit warrant and produced before the NIA court there.
In 2018, sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence had caught two persons — Md Mahaboob Baig and Syed Imran at Vizag with Rs 10.2 lakh of fake currency notes. They were travelling from Malda to Bengaluru.
The agency after investigating the case filed a chargesheet against Baig and Imran, while Saddam was absconding before being arrested on Sunday.
“Saddam had produced the fake notes through his associates from across the border and facilitate circulation of the notes in Bengaluru and other nearby locations,” said the NIA.
