Karimnagar: In view of the ‘Chalo Intermediate Board’ call given by the opposition parties to protest in front of the Inter Board in Hyderabad, the district police officials arrested the senior leaders of the Congress along with their supporters in Karimnagar son Monday.

Police arrested the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee, working president and former MP, Ponnam Prabhakar, in Hyderabad while participating in the dharna at the Intermediate Board along with his supporters.

Criticising the Telangana government and police over the arrests, Mr Ponnam alleged that from Sunday night, the TRS, by using its political and police power, was arresting many Congress leaders along with other leaders of opposition parties illegally across the state.

Instead of doing justice to the Inter students, the TRS was trying to suppress the movement and voice of opposition parties by arresting the opposition leader killing democracy in the state.

Referring to the “illegal” arrests of the Congress leaders who were contesting in the parishad elections, Mr Ponnam demanded that the government release them immediately as the parishad polls were going to be held in a few days.

Meanwhile, the police put senior leader and MLC, T. Jeevan Reddy and his supporters under house arrest in Jagtial.

Condemning the statement by the TRS working president, K.T. Rama Rao, saying he did not know about Globerana Company Pvt. Ltd., Mr Jeevan Reddy said, “It is surprising that Mr Rama Rao, who boasted on a number of occasions that he is an expert in having knowledge about various IT and software companies, did not know Globarena which belongs to one of his close associates.”

“Is this the way you want to rule the state and achieve Bangaru Telangana? Will you treat your children in the same manner, do you not have any responsibility regarding the future of the students,” was a question he posed to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Mr Jeevan Reddy said that the public and leaders of the opposition were very well aware of what was going on behind the scenes and demanded that Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao take criminal action immediately against Globarena and arrest the persons who were responsible for the Inter exam results fiasco along with issuing orders for a judicial enquiry.

The Congress spokesperson, Komatireddy Narendar Reddy, City President Karra Rajashekar, Uppara Ravi, Kareem Bhayee, Ponnam Srinivas, Veeragoni Srinivas Mulugu Prakash, Uyyala Srinivas, Venkat Reddy and Bonala Srinivas were among those who were arrested by the police.
