Karimnagar: 17-year-old girl succumbs in hospital

Karimnagar: A 17-year-old girl, Kamindla Lavanya, who allegedly attempted suicide by consuming pesticide after being declared failed in the Intermediate exams on April 18, died in a hospital in Karimnagar on Monday.

Lavanya, a resident of Vatimalla of Konaraopet mandal of Rajanna Sircilla district, had failed in two subjects. She allegedly attempted suicide by consuming pesticide when her parents were away from the house on April 26.

On reaching home, her parents admitted her in a local hospital from where she was shifted to the government hospital in Karimnagar for better treatment. She died in the hospital on Monday.

On learning of her death, Telugu Desam leaders staged a dharna in front of the hospital and demanded that government do justice to her parents by paying ex gratia of Rs 25 lakh and provide employment opportunity for one of her family members.

BJP spokesperson Bandi Sanjay Kumar criticised the government for not taking action against those responsible for the results fiasco.

Mr Kumar demanded that the government issue orders for a judicial inquiry by a High Court sitting judge and do justice to the Intermediate students immediately.
