Kakinada: Two workers buried alive as sand caves in

The other workers could be rescued, but these two died on the spot.

Kakinada: Two workers, engaged in sand mining died on the spot on Monday, when a huge mound of earth caved in.

According to Payakaraopet police of Visakhapatnam district, Anaparthi Srinu, 40 of Veevarapu Pet and Vesam Satyanarayana, 50 of MR Pet of Tuni in East Godavari district went to Tandava River near Tuni along with other four workers to dig the sand.

It is a regular practice to the workers to dig the sand and carry it on bullock carts. On Monday also, when they were engaged in the sand mining, the lumps of sand caved in on them and they were buried by the mound of sand.

The other workers could be rescued, but these two died on the spot. It took three hours to take out the victims from the sand mound.

The area comes under Visakhapatnam district.
