Hyderabad: Inter exam dates clash with BITS entrance, JEE

Experts say aspirants may not have failed in inter exams.

Hyderabad: The rescheduled timetable of the supplementary exams for Intermediate students overlaps with some of the top entrance exams. The advanced supplementary exams start on May 25.

The Joint Entrance Exam Advanced is scheduled for two sessions on May 27, when the final year students will be writing their core subject Intermediate exam.
The Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT) schedule which began on May 16 will end only on May 26.

More than three lakh students have been declared failed in Intermediate, 50,000 in maths alone. The maths exam falls on May 27 the JEE (Advanced) day.
The three-member technical committee which inquired into the results goof-up also noticed this and suggested that there be a subject-wise analysis for students, as many have a huge margin between first and second year results. There are instances of even toppers failing in the final year.

Some academics feel that students who make it to the JEE Advanced might not have failed in the Intermediate. Even if there is a fail mark in the mark list due to errors, this would be clarified with the re-verification, they said.

When it comes to BITSAT, all students wanting to take the exam have applied and the last date for slot booking is on April 12. There is no scope to change the date.

Mr Yelagandula Devender, a parent, said, “Many students have BITSAT schedule till May 26, and the students who have to take supplementary exams will be pressurised with the two exams. The schedule needs to changed to help students.”

Mr K. Lalith Kumar, IIT JEE Forum convener, said, “The BIE should consider the dates of all the entrance exams before fixing their dates. All students should be given an equal opportunity and accessibility for all the exams.”
