Cyclone Fani: Officials put on high alert

He directed all the officials to remain at their place of work and make arrangements to shift the people from low-lying areas to safer places.

Nellore: Prakasam district collector V. Vinay Chand has directed the field-level officials working in coastal areas to be on high alert in view of Cyclone Fani, heading towards the region.

At a review meeting with the officials in Ongole on Monday, the collector instructed the officials to take precautionary measures in 10 coastal mandals, apart from 5 mandals abutting them.

He directed all the officials to remain at their place of work and make arrangements to shift the people from low-lying areas to safer places. They were also told to take measures to provide food and drinking water to the people moved from their habitations.

Medical and health wing officials have been told to keep all the essential medicines ready and ensure the presence of medical officers at all the primary health centres. The R&B engineers have been asked to make arrangements to restore the roads in case of damage and also remove uprooted trees and electrical poles.

Nellore district collector R. Muthyala Raju also gave similar instructions to the officials on Sunday night.
