Telangana: Doctors' bodies contest BLS certification

The new rule of a compulsory BLS certificate is simply to let 3 parties mint some money claimed Healthcare Reforms Doctors Associations.

Hyderabad: Telangana Health Science Universities have made third party BLS certification, offered by the American Heart Institute (AHA) for Rs 3,000 on payment to university, mandatory. An MBBS student will be eligible to register with the Telangana State Medical Council (TSMC) only after completing the third party BLS certification.

According to doctors’ associations, all MBBS students get trained in Basic Life Support (BLS) in anaesthesia postings, emergency and casualty postings during their internships, reducing the need for another certification course for highly trained interns. The new rule of a compulsory BLS certificate is simply to let third parties mint some money, claimed Healthcare Reforms Doctors Associations (HRDA).

Experts, however, argue that the course specifically teaches MBBS graduates to tackle emergency situations and Basic Life Support (BLS).
