Hyderabad: Ignored, residents fix road on their own
Hyderabad: Fed up with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s inaction, residents of Marredpally have decided to repair damaged roads on their own.
“During Ivanka Trump’s visit to the city last year, we staged a protest with the slogan ‘Ivanka please come to this road’. Seven months have passed since then, but the GHMC is yet to respond to our grievances”, said M. Krishnak, a youth from Marredpally. He said that only those roads that were expected to be used by VIPs were repaired, and the rest were ignored. He added that he and other youths from the area had decided to repair the roads on their own.
“How is the GHMC turning a blind eye to the severely damaged Sangeeth Crossroads near St John’s Junior College, which is used by thousands of vehicles?” asked B. Sandeep Kumar, a local resident.
Residents organised a protest on Sunday, as part of which they some of them filled holes in the road with cement-concrete, while others held up placards reading, “Neither is Ivanka Trump coming nor is the government is repairing our roads. Why can’t we do it on our own?”
The residents said that the GHMC was not laying new roads or repairing damaged ones in East Marredpally.
