Bengaluru: Alert residents along with the JD (S) workers caught a 30-year-old man who was found moving suspiciously near the house of the JD(S) candidate Sridhar Reddy in Shanti Nagar.

He was found to be carrying a long machete, which was hidden in his scooter. The residents alerted Ashok Nagar police, who reached the spot and detained him.

The accused has been identified as Mazhar Khan, a resident of Neelasandra and an auto driver by profession.

According to the police, on Saturday night Mazhar was caught while he was making enquiries about Reddy’s whereabouts. The police also found he was having a packet of ganja.

Preliminary investigation revealed that he was under the influence of drugs and had come to Reddy’s house to seek financial help for his father, who was hospitalized due to cardiac problems.

Mazhar told the police that his rival Barkath Ali resided in the same area and he had carried the weapon to protect himself. The police had earlier arrested him for assaulting Barkath over a trivial issue and since then the two were holding a grudge against each other.
