Model from Bengaluru dies in Kolkata road accident
Bengaluru: A 27-year-old model and TV anchor Sonika Chauhan died in a road accident in Kolkata early Saturday. Her companion and Tollywood actor Vikram Chatterjee sustained head injuries and currently in the ICU.
The accident happened at Rash Behari Bose road and both of them were rushed to hospital by passersby, where Sonika was declared brought dead. The police would interrogate Vikram once he recovers.
Sonika had worked with NDTV Prime and Star Sports – and anchoring the Pro-Kabbadi season was one of her bigger projects in 2016.
She had studied at Mount Carmel College, Bengaluru, and left for home town Kolkata in 2010. The news came as a shock to everybody who knew her and her Facebook feed had been filled with photographs from her most recent shoots and the family vacation from which she had just returned.
Fans and friends alike have taken to writing condolence messages on her social media accounts. Her final photograph on Facebook, posted mere hours before the incident, at 7.30 pm on April 28, read: Do it today. Just Dance.
Chauhan, who hails from a family deeply involved with race horses, called automobiles her first love and hosted a lifestyle show on NDTV Prime. Her father, Vijay Singh, is one of the country's top racehorse trainers. Her grandfather, Jagadish Singh, a champion jockey, was considered one of the finest in Indian history. He owns a home in the city.
