Andhra Pradesh firms bag Rs 800 crore Hyderabad project

M. Venkat Rao Infra Projects and BSCPL Infra land massive contract.

Hyderabad: Two Andhra firms, M. Venkat Rao Infra Projects and BSCPL Infrastructure Ltd, have bagged Hyderabad’s biggest infrastructure project, the Rs 800-crore Strategic Road Development Programme in first phase.

The companies will have to build 21 flyovers and multi-grade separators at six major junctions in the city. The flyovers alone will cost Rs 800 crore. And as done by the HMR, the GHMC will have to pay double the market rate for land acquisition, which will cost the civic body another Rs 400- 500 crore. The companies have been given a deadline of 24 months. Also for the first time, two 50-feet underpass subways will be constructed at Mind Space and Owaisi Hospital.

A senior GHMC engineering officer said, “The SRDP will cost Rs 2,500 crore. In the first phase, Rs 800-crore worth of works — to build 21 flyovers at six major junctions, two subways and road widening — has been allocated to two Andhra companies. At certain junctions two flyovers will cross each other at one level like at KBR Park. These are called multi-grade separators. The companies have to complete the works in 24 months.

“Minister K.T. Rama Rao has asked the GHMC to speed up the land acquisition part, parties will be paid market rate. GHMC is checking the pipeline network of HMW-S&SB at these junctions. The two subways will be underground tunnels of 50 feet, three-lane underpasses. GHMC will bear 100 per cent of the project cost. Payment will be made after the job is done. Both companies have been given the plan and design and they are studying them.”

Meanwhile the SRDP flyover works at Jubilee Hills check-post and the flyover to Basavatarakam Cancer Hospital, Road No 10 Banjara Hills have been put on hold due to land acquisition. The design and plan at Jubilee Hills check-post will change as the GHMC has to acquire less than one acre of land at the construction site at road number 45.
