Madurai: Sellur Raju turned away from mosque

However, the men emerging from their prayers in the mosque chose to ignore the Minister and his pamphlets.

Madurai: Cooperation Minister Sellur K Raju beat a hasty retreat from the K.Pudur Sankar Nagar mosque on Friday when he failed to enlist the 'cooperation' of the Muslims during his campaign for the April 18 Lok Sabha elections.

The Minister along with his campaign team had parked himself outside the mosque hoping to canvas for votes with the Muslims coming out after their Friday prayers. He had the party flags and plenty of posters and pamphlets to woo the minority votes.

However, the men emerging from their prayers in the mosque chose to ignore the Minister and his pamphlets. When the AIADMK team persisted and tried to coax the Islamic brethren to accept their campaign pamphlets, some of the men in the group coming out of the mosque told them sternly their community would not support a party that has tied up with the BJP as poll partner.

Sensing that the argument with his 'target' audience could get out of hands, Minister Raju beat a quick retreat from the place, along with his embarrassed entourage.
