Guwahati: Bhanu engages BJP candidate in verbal dual

Mr Das claimed that Mr Bhanu does not represent the people of the state as he hailed from AP.

Guwahati: A fresh panel of candidate was prepared in Tezpur in which the BJP decided to field minister Pallab Lochan Das who came to BJP with Mr Sarma against the Congress candidate and former additional chief secretary and IAS officer M.G.V.K. Bhanu who hails from Andhra Pradesh.

With filing of nomination papers, a fresh controversy has rocked the constituency triggering a diatribe between Mr Das and his opponent Mr Bhanu.

Mr Das claimed that Mr Bhanu does not represent the people of the state as he hailed from AP. “The candidate who represents Assam in the Parliament must stand for the ethos, sentiments and aspirations of the people of the state. He is an outsider, a ‘'salani maas’ (imported fish),” Mr Das asserted.

Mr Bhanu contended that he has been serving the state since 1985. “The minister (Das) is a young man. I guess he was not born when I became an IAS officer and served the state in various capacities.”
