Chennai: Two die in wall collapse at leather factory in pammal

Chennai: Two workers were killed and one severely injured as a wall collapsed on them at a private leather tannery in Pammal near Pallavaram, on Thursday night. The leather export firm is located in Nagalkeni, owned by Shajat Ahmed.

Police said, three workers were cleaning a tank at the tannery premises, when its wall collapsed. The trio was identified as Akram Ansari (22), Hamid Ansari (21) and Ajay, all from Jharkhand.

It is reported that Akram died on the spot and Hamid Ansari was rushed to the Chromepet Government Hospital and later shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, where he died in the wee hours of Friday. Sources said Ajay's condition is critical.

Sources said, Ansari had accidentally consumed the chemical in the tank resulting in cardiac arrest. Shankar Nagar police registered a case, but no arrests have been made yet. Police took factory supervisor Faizal under custody, and investigations are on.
