Case against Kanimozhi; DMK denies charge

Thoothukudi: A case against the DMK candidate Kanimozhi for Thoothukudi Lok Sabha constituency was filed under three sections of the Representation of People act by the Tiruchendur Taluk police.

Based on a video of Thoothukudi South district secretary, Anitha Radhakrishnan distributing cash to women who performed ‘aarati’ at Tiruchendur to Kanimozhi during an election campaign in Tiruchendur, the election flying squad tahsildar, Muthuramalingam preferred formal complaint based on which the Tiruchendur taluk police registered case against eight persons including Kanimozhi and Anitha R Radhakrishnan under section 123, 171 (h) and 171 (e) of Representation of the People act.

Anitha Radhakrishnan, however, denied that neither he nor Kanimozhi bribed the voters and added that the video went viral on social media was shot before the election schedule was declared and hence it does not amount to violation of Model Code of conduct.

The DMK district secretary, along with leaders of his alliance parties too submitted a petition to the Thoothukudi district election officer.
