Looting, part of BJP culture: Karnataka CM H D Kumaraswamy

Deploring the IT raid on contractors, Mr Kumaraswamy wanted to know what the tax men had found during their searches.

Bengaluru: A day after the Income Tax raids on contractors and associates of JD(S) and Congress leaders in the state, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy hit out at the BJP saying "looting" was part of its culture.

Speaking to reporters here, he asked, "Do you want to know what (senior BJP leader) R Ashok has looted? He auctioned the entire BMTC. While stepping down as Chief Minister in 2008, I had made a Rs 1000 crore fixed deposit for the BMTC. But in the next five years, Mr Ashok put the entire company up for auction.''

Deploring the IT raid on contractors, Mr Kumaraswamy wanted to know what the tax men had found during their searches. "Did they get even Rs 10 during the raid? What was the purpose behind it? Did they raid any BJP leaders' houses?

According to them, BJP leaders are poor and just seek votes from the people with folded hands. But I know what Mr Ashok and (state BJP chief ) Mr Yeddyurappa have done,'' he said.

"When Mr Yeddyurappa was Chief Minister, he foisted several cases on me and I have been fighting them on merit for the last 12 years. But I know how he got the cases against him quashed. It is the BJP, which is killing democratic institutions, not the JD(S),'' he added.
