18 new sun burn cases in Kozhikode district

Ten men and eight women have been admitted to various hospitals in the district with sun burns and related ailments.

KOZHIKODE: With the temperature rising day by day, 18 new cases of sunburns have been reported from Kozhikode district, thereby taking the total number of sun burn cases to 71. On Friday the district health department had informed that most cases reported in last three days were of children between the age group of 11 to 14 years old. District medical officer Dr Jayas-ree had warned that the rising temperature and heat wave conditions in Kerala are the major results for the increasing nu-mber of sunburn cases, in which a majority of them are severe cases.

The only way to escape this situation is to take precautions, which includes avoiding direct contact with sun at its peak time, that is, 12 noon to 3 pm.- The district administration has also warned that stringent action would be taken against those violating the rules, especially the authorities at the construction sites, if they allow their workers to work during the peak temperature.

The anganwadis and the pre- school and summer camp activities has also been told to close for at least two weeks, till the temperature comes to a normal state.
