Kerala: Recognise, give weightage to UGC-approved study'
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) has decided to give recognition and equivalency to degrees of UGC-approved universities and Central institutions.
They include IITs, IISERs and NITs. A meeting of the KSHEC’s committee of university syndicate members took the decision applies to all universities in the state the other day.
The guidelines of the University Grants Commission and the membership of the Association of Universities should be the criterion. The universities should discuss the differences in norms while granting equivalency for syllabuses of different universities.
The committee should apprise the decision before the next meeting of various decision-making bodies of universities. The KSHEC will evolve norms applicable to all universities after discussions later.
The recognition and equivalency of distance education centres should follow norms of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The list of universities approved by Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and International Association of Univer-sities (IAU) should also be considered while fixing the norms. KSHEC vice-chairman Rajan Varghese attended the meeting.
