Kerala: Medical college hospital nurse suspended for patient abuse
Thiruvananthapuram: A male nursing superintendent of Medical College Hospital here was suspended on Thursday after visuals emerged showing him twisting the hand of an elderly patient.
The incident came to light when the bystander of another patient recorded the incident on his mobile phone and shared it on social media. The staffer, identified as Sunil Kumar, has since been suspended pending inquiry, said Medical College superintendent MS Sharmad. The patient was identified as Vasu of Vilakkupara, Kollam. He was learnt to be suffering from mental issues.
Earlier, this month, Vasu was admitted to the MCH due to fractures in the leg. According to reports Sunil Kumar was agitated when he arrived at the ward. He allegedly started tormenting Vasu to vent out his anger. The victim cried in excruciating pain but no one intervened. Mr Sharmad, adding that further treatment of Mr Vasu will done fee of cost.
While the date of the incident could not be confirmed, the location was confirmed as Ward 15. The patient was treated between March 19 and 23. Health Minister K.K. Shailaja said that strict action will be taken to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
