Asphalting puts Indiranagar in a jam
BENGALURU: Chaos reigned supreme on Indiranagar 14th A main and surrounding areas on Thursday as BMTC buses and other private company buses were diverted into narrow residential lanes on Thursday, due to asphalting work.
Residents of the areas had a harrowing time from the morning till evening as large number of vehicles, including buses which carry employees of private firms were diverted.
This blocked the free flow of vehicles leading to loud honking disrupting the peace of the area. Besides, diverting of vehicles added to the traffic commotion.
Natarajan K., a resident of Indiranagar said poor planning by the traffic police and the BBMP has led to the confusion in the area.
Vehicles plying on the 80 Feet Road were diverted as the BBMP had taken up asphalting work. The distance that could have been covered in a couple of minutes took over 20 minutes to reach Indiranagar 100 Feet Road. It is highly irritating and stressful to be in the middle of the traffic, especially on the bylanes, he said.
The BBMP and traffic cops must have proper co-ordination and work in tandem to avoid inconvenience to public. A little effort by the police department would have saved time of poor residents. The cops must act in a responsible manner, he fumed.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle a traffic policeman said that traffic was diverted into the residential bylanes as
BBMP had taken up asphalting work near New Horizon school and the road next to it.
For quick black topping, the BBMP had blocked the road. To avoid roads getting jam packed, the traffic was diverted, said a cop.
