CBI won't probe Malayalam actor Kalabhavan Mani's death

The test conducted at CFSL Hyderabad has ruled out pesticide content in his visceral samples.

Kochi: Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday submitted before Kerala High Court that it could not take over the investigation into the unnatural death of actor Kalabhavan Mani, saying it is already overburdened with cases, and is facing a shortage in staff.

The medical board constituted by the government, meanwhile, filed a report stating that the actor died of methyl alcohol poisoning. It said it could not find pesticides, drugs, alkaloids, metallic and volatile poisons.

The board consisting of ten doctors met on March 25 and examined the postmortem certificate, certificate of chemical analysis, the report from Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Hyderabad, the toxicology report from Amritha Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, and histopathology report from Government Medical College, Thrissur.

The test conducted at CFSL Hyderabad has ruled out pesticide content in his visceral samples.

The Regional Chemical Examiner's Laboratory at Kakkanad found traces of a pesticide - Chlorpyrifos. Following this, the suspected samples of blood urine viscera and gastric aspirates were sent for a detailed examination and quantification at the CFSL Hyderabad.

The result had revealed that only methyl alcohol and ethyl alcohol were detected.
