Tirupati: The Andhra Pradesh Government has taken steps to bring back 58-odd employees of Sri City SEZ and TCL factory in Chittoor district, who are stranded in the Chinese city of Wuhan, which is in the grip of the deadly coronavirus outbreak.
The staff from different parts of AP and Telangana were sent to Wuhan for training at a panel manufacturing factory six months ago. They are staying in the company’s hostel in Wuhan and have pleaded with the government to evacuate them from Wuhan. The company could not send them back as the Chinese government has sealed all the arrivals and departures from Wuhan.
The parents and family members of the employees have released videos messages pleading to save them, which went viral on the social media.
APIIC Chairperson and Nagari legislator R.K. Roja said they would be brought back as soon as flights resumed at Wuhan.
“The employees were trapped in Wuhan due to the cancellation of flights. I have taken up the matter with Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy and MP V. Vijayasai Reddy, who have directed the officials to make necessary arrangements,” she said.
Meanwhile, the parents of the 58 trainee employees from Andhra Pradesh, who are stranded in Wuhan city since January 23, have moved from pillar to post to bring them back.
All of them are B. Tech graduates selected as trainee engineers for Panel Opto-Display Technology. They went for a training at China Star Opto-Electronics Technology in Wuhan in August 2019. Following the outbreak of novel coronavirus, they wanted to return home as soon as possible. Vizag MP M.V.V. Satyanarayana also wrote a letter to External Affairs minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar to help them urgently.
