Chennai: 25 stolen mobile phones recovered, 7 held

With help of CCTV footages police nab woman and her aides.

Chennai: Nearly 25 high-end mobile phones were recovered from seven persons including a woman by police teams in Tambaram and Chengalapattu, on Monday.

On Saturday evening, when an employee of Mahendra city near Parannur was walking to the Paranur railway station, Rajeshwari (37) of Virugambakkam waylaid her and snatched her phone, and sped away. In the same month, a college student lost his phone to the same woman, who threatened him at knifepoint.

Based on complaints filed by the victims, Chengalpattu police formed a special team to nab the woman. On Monday, police nabbed the woman with the help of CCTV footages.

Based on her inputs, police arrested her aides Arul Prasath (25) of Porur, Sekar (41) of Virugambakkam and two juveniles. Ten mobile phones were recovered from them and all were remanded in judicial custody. Meanwhile, during a routine vehicle check by Tambaram police on the GST road, cops stopped two persons identified as Dory Karthick (23) and Gowtham (19) on suspicion.

On searching their belongings, police recovered four mobile phones. On further grilling, they confessed to have snatched mobile phones from elderly persons in Tambaram. They were arrested, and police seized another 11 mobile phones from them. They were also remanded in judicial custody.
