Behera submits report on Chaithra to CM
Thiruvananthapuram: State police chief Lokanath Behera on Tuesday handed over the report on the raid conducted by a team led by former deputy commissioner of police Chaithra Theresa John at the CPM Thiruvannthapuram district committee office last week to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
It is understood that the SPC forwarded the report prepared by additional director-general of police Manoj Abraham to the Chief Minister. The SPC has made no recommendation of action against the officer as the ADGP’s report contained no reference to it. The onus for the final decision now rests on the Chief Minister who had criticised Ms John’s action. Ms John was on deputation in place of Mr R. Aditya who was on Sabarimala duty. With Mr Aditya returning, Ms John is due to return to her job at the women’s cell.
Mr Abraham’s report had no serious adverse remarks on the young officer but it noted that she should have informed her senior officers, including the city commissioner, about the raid in advance.
The issue started when the Medical College police last Wednesday arrested two youths for allegedly eve-teasing a girl aged 17 under POCSO Act. The police personnel on guard duty denied permission to a group of DYFI activists to visit the accused. Following this, an altercation erupted between the police and the DYFI activists resulting in stone-pelting on the station.
On Thursday midnight, the police raided the CPM office following information that the accused might be hiding in the building.
It may be noted that even days after the incident of stone pelting at the police station, Medical College police could arrested one person, named Manoj, a resident of Bund Colony in Kunnukuzhy.
