Hyderabad: With Assembly elections closing in, the Telangana government is planning to set up a separate commission for STs. At present, there is one panel that looks after the interests of both the SCs and STs.
However, the Tribes Advisory Council headed passed a resolution requesting the government to expedite the proposal of constitution of separate commission for STs.
The government is also planning to set up a Tribal Industrial Chamber of Commerce and Industry, along the lines of the existing Dalit Industrial Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DICCI) functioning under the industries department.
The state government had only recently constituted an SC&ST Commission headed by TRS leader Errolla Srinivas as chairman.
The commission is mandated to monitor matters related to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes and inquire into complaints pertaining to the members of these communities.
