Kozhikode corporation to focus on waste' projects

Nod for modified, excluded plans.

KOZHIKODE: An emergency council meeting of the Kozhikode corporation held here on Monday gave sanction to modified and excluded projects for the 2017-2018 financial year. The major highlight of this year’s projects will be developing proper waste management and related facilities. The council therefore approved two more trucks for waste collection in order to intensity the activity in the city.

In addition to this, several activities for waste management including appointment of more cleaning staff, training programme for sanitary workers and starting waste treatment plants in the city are planned. The council meeting also approved calling for a new tender for the supply of Homeo medicines to the corporation homeopathic centers, as the government has failed to supply enough medicines on time.

The emergency meeting called by the corporation was postponed to Monday since the last meeting on Saturday had ended abruptly as councillors objected to the approval citing that they got the list of the modified and excluded projects only on Saturday afternoon.

The issue was raised when opposition councillors of the BJP and UDF objected to the process of approving the modified and excluded projects for the current financial year when the agenda came up for approval only at the emergency meeting. Corporation Mayor Thottathil Raveendran said that the present financial year would witness more development projects in the Corporation and much importance would be given to the development of roads along with waste management.
