Hyderabad: SSC exam halls to be mobiles-free

Last year, the CS in each of the 2,600 SSC exam centres across the state were allowed to carry basic phone.

HYDERABAD: Bringing cell phones to examination centres was barred for students writing Intermediate and tenth theory exams. This rule will now be applicable even to officials on monitoring duty.

Government examinations wing that conducts SSC exams and Board of Intermediate Education that conducts Intermediate exams will not allow even the Chief Superintendent (CS) in-charge of each centre, to carry any mobile phone.

Last year, the CS in each of the 2,600 SSC exam centres across the state were allowed to carry basic phone. An official at Kosgi centre in Mahabubnagar district sneaked in a smart phone and clicked question paper images on camera to forward them on Whatsapp. However, alert officials and police caught him red-handed before damage was done.

To overcome this headache, authorities decided to bar even the CS from using mobile phone in the SSC exam centres. The examinations are set to be held in March.

The Intermediate Board will also not allow any of its officials in the examination centre to use any type of phone. Any communication between higher authorities and monitoring staff in exam centres will be through landline or through a board staffer, who will be stationed at the nearest police station.
