Kochi takes to e-governance
Kochi: The Rs 8.78 crore e-governance project that aims at providing all major services offered by the Kochi Corporation online, is all set to be launched by March next, finally after a delay of over a decade.
“Initially four services will be available – marriage certificate, birth and death certificates, grievance cell and Town Hall booking,” said Mayor Soumini Jain.
“Currently, the Corporation website is being revamped for the purpose. We have started the trial run using the software developed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)”
The local body had set up kiosks in hospitals so that people could obtain birth and death certificates online.
“The new certificates are already available while old data needs to be added with regard to the birth and death registrations. A designated corporation employee will be deployed as the special officer in charge of the grievance cell to look into complaints related to functioning of the corporation,” sources said.
No additional charges will be levied other than service charges and the project will be implemented in full along with development activities under the Smart City.
“There are no additional charges for the services. More sectors including payment of property and building taxes will be added in the next few months. It will help bring in more transparency in administrative activities of the corporation,” Jain said.
The project was caught in a technical glitch with the earlier councils bringing in two agencies, Information Kerala Mission (IKM) and TCS. It was initially aimed at being completed in 2011.
